Indiana, PA - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) hosted Representative Mike Kelly on a road tour of Three Degree Road and Balls Bend Projects as parts of the Route 228 Corridor Improvement Project in Butler County.

"I'm proud to say you are here today because of our partnerships with permit agencies, the county, local municipalities, the Federal Highway Administration, and everyone pulling together to move forward the projects in the Route 228 Corridor, said Alice Hammond, PennDOT District 10 Assistant District Executive - Design. "This was a true partnership, and we couldn't have done it without the dedication from everyone involved."

The Route 228 Corridor Improvement Projects are aimed at updating the safety and efficiency of the route from its intersection with Route 8 to Route 19. The project includes multiple projects including Balls Bend, Three Degree Road project and Freedom Road improvement projects.

Funding for these projects was in part from the Better Utilizing Investments to Leverage Development (BUILD) grants. U.S. DOT's BUILD Discretionary Grants program funds investments in transportation infrastructure. $45 million in federal funding from the BUILD grants allowed the Route 228 Corridor Improvement Projects to continue moving forward to expand and enhance the corridor.

"This project is putting taxpayer dollars to work right here in Butler County. Let's be clear - the real people to thank are the taxpayers. We are investing in the future of Butler County and Western Pennsylvania for decades to come," said Rep. Kelly. "This is a great step toward improving safety, accessibility and efficiency along one of the most critical and heavily traveled highways in our region. I'm proud to have secured funding and resources for the Route 228 project to improve one of the fastest-growing regions in the 16th Congressional District."
