Construction Activities Suspended due to Tropical Storm Warning

Contact: Lucia Bonavita • 561-233-5583 • [email protected]

Currently, Palm Beach County is under a Tropical Storm Warning by the National Weather Service in Miami.

Upon the issuance of a tropical storm or hurricane warning for our area, all normal construction activities are ordered to suspend except for those activities directly necessary to secure a project or site in preparation for a storm event.

All regulated work may resume once the storm has passed and the prevailing winds drop below tropical storm force (40 mph) at the site.

Contractors should remain vigilant and undertake reasonable preparations for any storm that might cause flying debris. Please utilize this time to secure construction sites to protect the site/property.

Additionally, please distribute this communication to all of all stakeholders and urge them to remind their coworkers of the need to help mitigate potentially dangerous construction scenarios.

All Palm Beach County offices including the Building Division office, will be closed from noon on Wednesday, Oct. 9, through Thursday, Oct. 10, and will reopen on Friday, Oct. 11.

All inspections previously scheduled on Oct. 9 and 10 will be cancelled and will need to be rescheduled. If storm damage is not excessive, building inspections will resume as normal on Friday, Oct. 11. Video Inspections will also not be available on Wednesday and Thursday.

On Wednesday morning, Palm Beach County Building Division inspection staff will visit construction sites to ensure they have been secured as outlined in the division's hurricane season letter (linked here or at pbc.gov/pzb/building) and that no hazardous conditions exist.

Please act responsibly by protecting construction sites from unnecessary damage and the community from collateral damage from flying debris.
