Baton Rouge, LA - November 13, 2024 - Mayor-President Sharon Weston Broome thanks the Metropolitan Council for this evening approving significant new investments of federal funding to provide more affordable housing throughout East Baton Rouge Parish. The Metropolitan Council approval to move forward with more than $6 million total in development of 132 new mixed-income and other housing units includes approval for: the Hotel Lincoln Housing Development (12 mixed-income units), The Villas at Mohican near Plank Road (58 mixed-income housing units), the Dayton Street Housing Development (4 home-ownership units), the Melrose IV Housing Development (10 housing units), the 1335 North Residences Project at the Historic Prince Hall Masonic Temple (46 mixed-income units), and the Melrose III Housing Development (2 housing units).
"This approval marks a commitment to addressing the housing needs of our community, and will bring more stability, security and opportunity for individuals and families," said Mayor Broome. "This investment will help reduce poverty, support healthier neighborhoods, and give more families a chance to invest in their future."
