ITC Midwest Provides $10,000 Grant To Food Bank of Iowa

Funds to be used to support food pantries in local communities

BURLINGTON, Iowa (Nov. 5, 2024) - ITC Midwest is helping to offset food insecurity through a $10,000 grant awarded to Food Bank of Iowa. The grant will support a school food pantry in Burlington which has seen an increased need for food assistance.

With more than 345,000 Iowans struggling to afford nutritious food, hunger can manifest itself in hardworking families trying to make ends meet and children who only get meals at school. Food Bank of Iowa believes that no one should go hungry and serves a 55-county area that closely matches the communities in the ITC Midwest service territory. The contribution by ITC Midwest will provide resources to the "Lend a Paw" school pantry in Burlington. ITC Midwest's funding will help to ensure this site continues to provide resources at no cost to schools and families.

Food Bank of Iowa (FBOI) supports 162 school pantries across 44 counties. Many are open year-round to serve families. FBOI school pantries never pay a fee for training, food or delivery. They simply need to have a dedicated space and caring staff or volunteers to coordinate the pantry.

"We are grateful to ITC Midwest for this generous grant," said Food Bank of Iowa Vice President of Philanthropy Bergetta Beardsley. "This support is especially critical now, when more than 15% of Iowa kids don't know where or when they will find their next meal. ITC Midwest's funding will provide vital nutrition for families facing food insecurity in Burlington and Newton."

"ITC Midwest deeply appreciates Food Bank of Iowa's efforts in addressing food insecurity," said ITC Midwest President Dusky Terry. "We are honored to know that our contribution will help ensure more children have access to food at home, providing nourishment that supports the well-being of the entire community."
