Hydrant Flushing Notice

Hydrant flushing will begin on Tuesday, September 17, 2024. We will start in Area One, in the southeast area of section one, and then progress northwest. After completing Area One, we will move to Area Two and so forth. The entire process is estimated to take around four weeks to complete all four areas, and we will provide weekly updates on our progress.

Please refer to the map for the locations of the defined areas.

Hydrant flushing is essential to ensure adequate water flow for firefighters, residents, and businesses. It also improves water quality by removing iron and other mineral deposits from the water mains, which helps maintain our water system's integrity. Additionally, this process is necessary to prevent hydrants from freezing in the winter.

Please be aware that this process may temporarily cause discolored water. If you notice brown or "rusty" water from your faucet, run cold water in your laundry or bathtub for a few minutes until the water runs clear again.

For any inquiries, please contact the Department of Public Works at (586) 293-2001.
