State v. Isaac Thompson
Decatur, Ga.- DeKalb County District Attorney Sherry Boston announces a conviction by jury trial in the case of a Stone Mountain man charged with shooting and killing a man during an argument that centered around the victim contacting his girlfriend.
On Thursday, November 7, 2024, jurors found Isaac Thompson, 24, guilty of Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault, and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony in connection with the death of Aquandis Foston, 22, on February 20, 2021.
According to the investigation, at around 3:35 p.m. officers with the DeKalb County Police Department responded to a call about a person shot outside a townhouse in the 5700 block of Wells Circle in Stone Mountain. When they arrived, police found Foston unconscious with a single gunshot wound to the chest.
Several witnesses were on the scene and spoke with responding officers.
Phone records showed that on the day of the shooting Thompson's girlfriend, Co-Defendant Makayla Bolston, 21, called and texted Foston multiple times inviting him over. When Foston arrived, however, Defendant Thompson and another unknown man confronted him and told him to leave. Foston told Defendant Thompson he would not leave until he spoke to Defendant Bolston. As they argued, Defendant Thompson pulled out a gun, pointed it at Foston, shot him once in the chest and then ran away.
Immediately following the guilty verdicts, DeKalb County Superior Court Judge Yolanda Parker-Smith, who presided over the trial, sentenced Defendant Thompson to Life Without the Possibility of Parole plus five years.
In August 2021, a DeKalb County Grand Jury indicted Defendant Bolston on charges of Malice Murder, Felony Murder, Aggravated Assault and Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony for her role in luring Foston to the townhomes. The case against Defendant Bolston is still pending.
The case, assigned to the Homicide and Gangs Unit, was prosecuted by Senior Assistant District Attorney Andrew Turner, Senior Assistant District Attorney Helen Pott, District Attorney Investigator A. Zachary and Victim Advocate Kaysha Albritton. DeKalb County Police Department Det. D. Evans led the initial investigation.
