Zero Waste Holidays: Holiday Tree Composting Options

As the holidays come to a close, remember to properly plan to have your holiday tree recycled the zero-waste way, by turning it into mulch or compost. Only real trees, without decorations, lights, stands, tinsel and flocking can be recycled and composted.

Here are Santa Rosa residents' options to recycle your holiday tree.

Curbside Residential Collection

  • For curbside full tree recycling is available to residents on regular collection days between December 30, 2024 and January 10, 2025. After January 10, 2025, please remove all accessories and decorations from your tree and cut it to fit inside your green bin with the lid closed. Do not bag your tree. Flocked trees must be placed in the garbage bin.

Drop-off - Friday January 17, 2025 is the Last Day!

  • Santa Rosa residents may drop-off whole unflocked trees at the Sonoma County Fairgrounds, 1350 Bennett Valley Rd. (Jockey Club entrance), Dec. 26, 2024 to Jan. 17, 2025, between the hours of 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

Thank you for doing your part to keep organic waste out of our landfills.

Remember, if it Grows, then it GOES, in your Green Bin or Home Compost Bin.
