Dublin City Council is delighted to welcome three delegates from San Francisco, USA, on a 3 day study visit as part of the European Union funded International Urban and Regional Cooperation (IURC) program in North America.

IURC has established itself as a leading global network for urban innovation and sustainable urban development.

This collaboration marks a significant step in fostering international dialogue and partnerships. By working together, Dublin and San Francisco aim to share best practices and explore innovative models to achieve their urban development goals.

Since the beginning of their cooperation in January 2024, the two cities have engaged in several technical meetings. This study visit will focus on the following thematic areas:

  • Circular Economy in relation to food, the built environment, consumer products, and training & job creation.
  • Natural refrigerants in residential and commercial buildings.
  • Community Engagement.

San Francisco will subsequently host Dublin in October 2024. The cities will continue their cooperation until December 2025, working together to develop an Urban Cooperation Action Plan. This plan will outline actions and pilot projects designed to produce transferable results, aligning with the program's main objective of demonstrating concrete progress and impact.

Dublin looks forward to the insights and advancements this partnership will bring, contributing to sustainable growth and innovation in our cities. This initiative aligns with the objectives of the UN Paris Agreement, the UN Urban Agenda, the 2030 Agenda, and the cooperation between the US and the European Union, further emphasizing the commitment to sustainable development and environmental stewardship.
