Philadelphia, PA - The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced today that various construction activities including milling, paving and bridge repair will continue at night next week on Interstate 76 (Schuylkill Expressway) in Philadelphia under a $36.8 million project to resurface and repair nearly five miles of the interstate, the associated on-and-off ramps, and more than 20 bridges.

Motorists are advised of the following travel restrictions:

Motorists are advised to allow extra time when traveling through or near the work areas because backups and delays will occur. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

Under this contract, PennDOT's contractor will mill and overlay I-76 (Schuylkill Expressway) pavement from U.S. 1 to I-676 (Vine Street Expressway); perform concrete base, shoulder and barrier repair and replacement as needed; construct minor grade adjustments for existing inlets at select locations; replace damaged signs; install new pavement markings, delineators, and rumble strips; and perform bridge repairs.

Motorists can check conditions on major roadways by visiting www.511PA.com. 511PA, which is free and available 24 hours a day, provides traffic delay warnings, weather forecasts, traffic speed information, and access to more than 1,000 traffic cameras. 511PA is also available through a smartphone application for iPhone and Android devices, by calling 5-1-1, or by following regional X alerts.
