‘Mother Jackson was an icon in this community’: Portion of Temple Place dedicated in honor Prophetess Mother A.B. Jackson

On Wednesday, October 30, County leaders and members of Jackson Temple Holiness Church unveiled street signs that read "Prophetess Mother A.B. Jackson Way" in honor of Prophetess Mother Annie Bell Jackson. Temple Place, in front of the church was dedicated in honor of the Prophetess Mother for her work and love in the community. The Commission approved this in July 2024. You can read the ordinance here.

"Mother Jackson was an icon in this community," said Gloria Washington, member of the Temple. "Holding prayer services, 9, 12, and 6, daily. She did things that a lot of churches did not do."

Prophetess Mother Jackson began her ministry, serving, and preaching to those in Macon and surrounding communities in 1954. After the passing of her husband, she joined and was ordained for ministry at East Second Street Holiness Church in Macon. In 1968, she built and founded Jackson Temple Holiness Church, behind her house off of Womack Street.

"Mother Jackson was a tower in this business and I'm so happy to see that her legacy continues to go forward and the naming of this street will continue to have generations yet unborn asking about who this wonderful woman was."

She hosted a radio broadcast ministry on WDDO-AM in Macon for more than 30 years. Though Prophetess Mother Jackson did not have any children of her own, she served as a mother to the community, displaying compassion for others by praying with them in their homes, helping feed and clothe those in need, and even helping people clean their homes. She was the pastor at Jackson Temple Holiness Church for 44 years, before passing away in 2012.

"I'm a changed man today all because of Prophetess Mother Jackson. A name that I will never forget and a person that I will never forget," said Assistant Pastor Tommy Watson. "My mother was a single mother of five, living in poverty. Mother Jackson helped raise me. She put food on our table, clothes on our backs, kept the bills paid."
