It's that time of year again where we "fall back" for daylight saving time. Get ready to turn your clocks back one hour. The switch will happen at 2:00 a.m. on Sunday, November 3.
While you prepare to change your clocks, time on microwaves, ovens, cars, etc., change the batteries on your smoke detectors, too! Our Fire Department likes to remind everyone to change their batteries twice a year, usually during daylight saving.
Statistics shows most fatal fires occur at night. Every home need working smoke alarms to provide an early warning in case of and fire emergency.
Install smoke alarms in all sleeping rooms, hallways that lead to sleeping areas, basements, and each additional level of your house.
Smoke alarms should be mounted on the ceiling 4'' from the wall; wall mounted smoke alarms should be 4-12" from the ceilings. Do not install near draft areas (windows, or air vents). Call your local fire department if you are unsure about placement.
