Chairs of CIS Parliaments to Convene in Saint-Petersburg

On 11-12 July, speakers will participate in the ХBRICS Parliamentary Forum, which will be conducted in the IPA CIS headquarters - the Tavricheskiy Palace.

The IPA CIS Council will be held on the last day of the Forum on 12 July.

Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko will chair the event.

It is expected that speakers of the CIS parliaments: Azerbaijan - Sahiba Gafarova (the Milli Majlis), Belarus - Natalya Kochanova (the Council of the Republicof the National Assembly) and Igor Sergeyenko (the House of Representatives of the National Assembly), Kazakhstan - Maulen Ashimbaev (the Senateof the Parliament), Kyrgyzstan - Nurlanbek Shakiev (the Jogorku Kenesh), Russia - Valentina Matvienko (the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly), Tajikistan - Mahmadtohir Zokirzoda (the Majlisi namoyandagonof the Majlisi Oli) and Uzbekistan - Tanzila Narbaeva (the Senateof the Oliy Majlis) will join the event.

Deputy -Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia - Ruben Rubinyan and First Deputy Chair of the State Duma of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation - Ivan Melnikov will also participate in the Council's activities. Chair of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Defense and Security Aigul Kuspan will represent the Mazhilis of the Parliament of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

It is expected that the Council may adopt the statement on the situation in Gaza Strip of the State of Palestine. Moreover, MPs will need to consider the Regulations on Observer Status with the IPA CIS. They will also discuss the participation of the IPA CIS international observers in monitoring snap presidential elections in the Republic of Azerbaijan, parliamentary elections in the Republic of Belarus, and presidential elections in the Russian Federation.

Secretary General of the IPA CIS Council Dmitriy Kobitskiy will provide information about the preparation of the Assembly's international observers in the field of monitoring elections to the Legislative Chamber of the Oliy Majlis of the Republic of Uzbekistan and Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan.

Members of the Council will consider the candidacy for the IPA CIS Chingiz Aitmatov Award in 2024.

Besides, the Assembly will finalize the work's results in 2023.
