IPA CIS Observers to Monitor Snap Parliamentary Elections in Azerbaijan

Speaker of the Milli Majlis of the Republic of Azerbaijan Sahiba Gafarova sent a letter to Speaker of the Federation Council of the Federal Assembly of the Russian Federation, Chairperson of the IPA CIS Council Valentina Matvienko. The letter includes an invitation for IPA CIS international observers to monitor early parliamentary elections in Azerbaijan on 1 September 2024.

Speaker of the Milli Majlis emphasized the growing role of the parliamentarism, which was a significant element of the state's governance under modern conditions. She remarked that the IPA CIS played a vital role in strengthening interparliamentary cooperation, and establishing itself as a valuable platform for the constructive dialogue and international interaction. Sahiba Gafarova noted the extensive experience of the IPA CIS representatives in the monitoring of elections and referendums.

The Secretariat of the IPA CIS will form a monitoring group, which will include representatives from the parliaments of the Assembly's Member Nations, the IPA CIS staff members, experts of the IPA CIS IIMDD.

President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev signed a decree on the dissolution of the Milli Majlis 6th convocation and called snap parliamentary elections in the country on 1 September 2024.
