Work to Improve the Bike Route near Kelly Road Bridge in Mercer County to Start Soon

07/08/2024

Work to improve the bicycle and pedestrian route on both sides of the new Kelly Road Bridge in the City of Hermitage and Sharpsville Borough in Mercer County is scheduled to start July 15, 2024.

The project will include milling and paving about a half mile of roadway, adding signs, updated line painting, and upgrades to drainage with pipes repairs and bicycle-friendly inlets.

On the Sharpsville end of the project, work will be done on approximately 2,000 feet of East High Street from N. Walnut Street and end at the Erie Canal Walkway Park.

In Hermitage, work will be done on approximately 1,050 feet of roadway from the Kelly Road Bridge to the entrance to the Mahaney Recreational Area and Dam.

The contractor is Lindy Paving of New Galilee, PA. The contract cost for the Sharpsville portion of the project is being funded through a combination of local money and a $395,000 grant from the federal Surface Transportation Urban (STU) program. Work in Hermitage will be funded through a $462,795 STU grant.

No detours are expected in connection with the project. Motorists may encounter lane restrictions with traffic controlled by flaggers.
