CDCR Seeking Incarcerated Man Who Walked Away from Owens Valley Conservation Camp

BISHOP - California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation (CDCR) officials are seeking a minimum-security incarcerated person who walked away from Owens Valley Conservation Camp in Inyo County on Tuesday, Aug. 6, 2024.

Ashiel Bahar, 37, was discovered missing at 3 a.m. Staff immediately launched a search of the camp buildings and grounds. CDCR's Office of Correctional Safety, CAL FIRE and local law enforcement agencies have been notified and are assisting in the search.

Bahar is 6 feet tall and weighs 247 pounds. He has brown eyes and black hair. It is suspected he was wearing either gray sweatpants and a gray t-shirt or orange pants and an orange long sleeve shirt.

He was received from San Diego County on Nov. 1, 2023, to serve a four-year sentence for first-degree burglary, using ID of another to obtain personal identifying information, grand theft firearm, grand theft exceeding $950 and evade or attempting to evade a Peace Officer while driving recklessly. He is also a second striker.

Since 1977, 99 percent of all people who have left an adult institution, camp, or community-based program without permission have been apprehended.
