Tamboran and Darwin SALTIES NBL1 team announce three-year partnership

Tamboran Resources (ASX: TBN) has announced a three-year partnership, including naming rights partner, with the National Basketball League Division 1 (NBL1) team, the Tamboran Darwin SALTIES.

Two Massive Darwin SALTIES Signings

Tamboran is excited to be partnering with the Northern Territory's most exciting sporting club, the Tamboran Darwin SALTIES, which have turbo-charged their third season in the semi-professional NBL1.

In a huge off-court boost, Tamboran Resources has secured naming rights partner for both women's and men's SALTIES teams for three years. While, in a massive on-court boost, NBL1 North 2023 Most Valuable Player, Courtney Woods, will relocate from Brisbane to play for the SALTIES women's team in 2024. Tamboran will also be Woods' player sponsor.

Tamboran Resources Managing Director and CEO, Joel Riddle, said he is proud to partner with the Darwin SALTIES in the NBL1.

"In just two years in the league, the SALTIES have made a huge impact to not just the sporting culture, but the community of Darwin has a whole." he said.

"Tamboran is partnering with the SALTIES to support them on-and-off the court in their bid for admission into the National Basketball League - meaning the NT will have its first ever national top-level sports team.

"This partnership is consistent with Tamboran's goals to be an integral part of the NT community and creating new opportunities for all Territorians.

"We are impressed by the performances of both the men's and women's teams last season, and trust 2024 will be the biggest SALTIES season yet.

"The sponsorship will also give the SALTIES the opportunity to attract quality professional players and staff and offer new professional development pathways to aspiring young Territorian talent. The signing of Courtney Woods is testament to how seriously the new management is taking this project.

"The SALTIES assist and give inspiration to young Territorians who are often faced with the prospect of having to move interstate to pursue their sporting dreams at great personal and financial cost to them and their families. This means young basketballers from the Territory who want to hone and even pursue a career in their sport do not have to leave the NT to make their dreams a reality.

"Growing up in the middle of America, attending SALTIES games has a warm and familiar feeling of my own youth, with basketball being a hub for community and families getting together to support their local team."

"Tamboran believes in the power of sport to bring communities together and to offer new opportunities and pathways for young people, and so are pleased that we can support those outcomes in the NT as naming rights partners of the Salties."

The Tamboran Darwin SALTIES General Manager, Matt Nason, said Woods is a very high-quality player and person, and will play a huge role in coach Rod Tremlett's team.

"Courtney was a star last season and this is a great signing for the club," Nason said.

"The SALTIES women played finals in 2023 for the first time and we want to make the top 4 and play a 'home' final in 2024 - that's the goal and Courtney will help us get there."

Women's coach Rod Tremlett said he's thrilled by the signing of Courtney and Tamboran.

"Courtney is a proven winner. She is in rare company over the last 12 months winning both an WNBL and NBL1 North Championship plus she was MVP of our League," he said.

"Her leadership will be invaluable to our on-court successes and her friendly nature will ensure she is a crowd favourite. She will inspire local juniors which is critical to our future."

Nason said that Tamboran Resources and the SALTIES were both emerging high-energy teams in their fields and would grow together.

"Having Tamboran sign on as naming rights partner is so important for us. Without their support, and the support of all our amazing partners, we simply wouldn't exist," he said.

"What I especially love is that Tamboran are partnering with the SALTIES on the journey of becoming a full-time professional NBL club - they are making a long-term commitment that delivers for Territorians.

"They also have a particular interest in supporting our women's program - including being Courtney's player sponsor - and they will join our journey to also become a national WNBL club."

An official media event featuring Courtney Woods and Tamboran management will be held at a future date.
