Engine Company No. 5 Celebrates 150 Years of Service

There was an overwhelming turnout on Saturday morning, November 30, 2024, to celebrate Engine 5's 150 years of service.

Engine 5 was established in Inman Square (then known as Atwood's corner) on November, 30, 1874 as the Patrick H. Raymond Engine Company No. 5 in honor of Chief Raymond who was the first Black fire chief in America.

Numerous active and retired members, as well as family, friends, city officials, and neighbors stopped by for the ceremony. Thank you to everyone who made this event happen!

Engine 5 has a storied history in fighting fires not only in Cambridge, but in our mutual aid cities and towns. Historically the members of Engine 5 have fought almost every major fire in the metro response area, including Somerville, Chelsea, Revere, and beyond.
