Flood Resilience Project - 3rd to Tremont

Just before river stages began climbing, the contractor was able to complete the bulk of the work on the River Dr flood resilience project between 3rd and Tremont. Now that river levels have fallen further, the section of road has re-opened. As for the bike path, flooding has further delayed the completion of this component of the project. At this time, we cannot estimate when the bike path section will re-open as river levels will need to drop nearer to 10 FT and coordination with the railroad will be required before work can be finished on the underground sewer line and structures.

We will keep the community posted as more information becomes available.

As work draws nearer completion, traffic control is shifting again on the River Dr flood resilience project from 3rd to Tremont. Be mindful of the changes when approaching the area. Local businesses remain open and are accessible from the north via Tremont and the west via Federal.

The flood resilience project along and adjacent to River Dr between 3rd and Tremont is moving right along. Expect current traffic control on River Dr to continue through early to mid-July. As for the bike path, there have been a few delays due to the weather and coordination with the railroad. With directional boring under the tracks and a number of other phases of the project adjacent to the trail remaining, the recreational trail is now anticipated to remain closed through early to mid-May.

The flood resilience project along and adjacent to River Dr between 3rd St and Tremont is moving right along. Beginning February 19, River Dr will be reduced to one lane in each direction between 3rd St and Oneida. Motorists should be aware the lane reduction will come with a restriction - no left hand turns from east or westbound lanes. This is to ensure traffic movement. Plan your route accordingly to access your favorite destinations along this stretch.

This part of the project will install new storm sewer lines and valves. Lane reductions are expected to end in late June/early July, pending weather and subsurface conditions.

Work in the adjacent area along the riverfront and recreational path will continue through mid-to-late March. The recreational path will remain closed until equipment and the work zone are removed from the area.

Due to work on the flood resilience project taking place along River Dr between 3rdand Tremont Ave, the Riverfront Recreational Trail has been closed between the Government Bridge and Prospect Park. The closure is necessary for pedestrian and cyclist safety due to the proximity of work and heavy equipment to the trail. The trail is estimated to re-open mid-to-late March.
