Chester “Chet” Tomczyk Appointed as City Treasurer

August 27, 2024 (PEORIA, IL) The city of Peoria is pleased to announce the appointment of Chester "Chet" Tomczyk as the Peoria City Treasurer, effective August 28, 2024. This decision follows the resignation of Treasurer Stephen Morris who stepped down due to professional and personal obligations. The City Council voted unanimously to appoint Tomczyk to the position at tonight's council meeting.

Tomczyk is a respected leader within the community, known for his twenty-year tenure as the President and Chief Executive Officer of WTVP-TV and Central Illinois Public Media. During his time at the station, Tomczyk oversaw all media operations, including finance, fundraising, operations, and community relations. He also led the station through the change from analog to digital broadcasting, which also transitioned to high-definition and online programming. He has volunteered with Illinois Public Broadcasting Council, Pediatric Resource Center, Illinois Valley Public Telecommunications Corporation, and served as a commissioner for the City's Human Resource Commission.

"Chet Tomczyk brings a wealth of knowledge and a proven track record of leadership to this vital role," said Mayor Rita Ali. "With his track record in our community, we are thrilled he applied for the position. I am confident that his expertise will ensure our city's responsible fiscal practices."

In his new role, Tomczyk will be responsible for the administration and management of the collection, verification, recording, and depositing, of all taxes, fines, and fees due to the city.

The City Council and the community-at-large extend their gratitude to Stephen Morris for his service and contributions to the city during his tenure. The consolidated election for City Treasurer will be held April 1, 2025.
