Detectives Investigate Teacher for Sexual Assault

ANAHEIM, Calif. (Sept. 12, 2024) - Anaheim Police detectives are investigating a teacher who fathered a child with one of his students approximately 35 years ago.

On August 26, 2024, a female adult reported to the Anaheim Police Department that when she was a student at Loara High School in the late 1980s, she had an intimate relationship with one of her teachers. Sexual assault detectives immediately started to investigate and located a second female adult who also had an intimate relationship with the same teacher, and they had one child together. Both victims were minors at the time of these incidents.

One of the victims identified the teacher as Mr. Steve Graves, who is now 61 years old. Mr. Graves is employed with the Anaheim Union High School District, and detectives have already contacted him. As of August 29, 2024, the school district placed Mr. Graves on administrative leave.

Anaheim Police detectives are working with the Orange County District Attorney's Office to determine what charges can be filed, if any, based on the statute of limitations.

This investigation is ongoing. Mr. Graves has been employed as a teacher at Loara High School, Ball Junior High School, and Lexington Junior High School.
