Early voting in Detroit begins October 19, opening 15-day window to cast ballots for November 5 election

• Detroiters can avoid election day rush, cast votes early and conveniently at 14 locations
• Voters can visit detroitvotes.org to find the early voting site nearest to them

Detroit voters will have more than two weeks to cast their votes before the November 5th general election, allowing them to avoid election day crowds and vote at their convenience at dozens of locations around the city, Mayor Mike Duggan and Clerk Janice Winfrey announced today.  

Beginning 9 a.m. Saturday, October 19, the City of Detroit will activate 14 early voting sites that will remain open until election day on November 5.  Early voting sites will be open Mon-Saturday from (9am-5pm).

Early voting locations for the City of Detroit include:

• Butzel Family Center, 7737 Kercheval
• Department of Elections, 2978 W. Grand Blvd
• Clark Park, 1130 Clark
• City Clerk Office, 2 Woodward Ave.
• Christ Temple Baptist Church, 10628 Plymouth Rd.
• Adams Butzel Recreation Complex, 10500 Lyndon
• Palmer Park Community Center, 1121 Merrill Plaisance St.
• WCCCD Eastern Campus, 5901 Conner
• Northwest Activities Center, 18100 Meyers Rd.
• Farwell Recreation Center, 2711 E Outer Dr.
• WCCCD Northwest, 8200 W. Outer Dr.
• Kemeny Recreation Center, 2260 S. Fort St.
• Heilmann Recreation Center, 19601 Crusade
• Greater Grace Temple, 23500 W. Seven Mile Rd.

"During major elections, the crowds at polling places on election day can discourage some people from voting. We want to make sure that every Detroiter who is registered to vote has the ability to legally cast their vote early, when and where it is most convenient to them," the mayor said. "My wife, Sonia, and I, along with a number of others, plan to take advantage of this opportunity by casting our votes early on October 19."

How early voting works

Michigan's law changed to allow early voting in November of 2022, which gives Michiganders a very similar voting experience to voting on election day. Voters will be issued a ballot and then insert their ballots directly into a tabulator at their early voting site, similar to what they would experience on Election Day.

If residents cannot make it in-person to vote at any of the voting locations on or before election day, residents can also vote from home ahead of election day and either mail in their ballot or place it in one of the secure drop box locations.

Residents can sign up for the Permanent Mail Ballot List to receive an absentee ballot in the mail before every election. If the ballot is sent in before the election, the vote will be counted. It's generally recommended that those who plan to vote from home request a mail in ballot no later than October 15 to ensure enough time to receive, complete, and return your ballot by the deadline. Absentee ballots are due by November 5 at 8 p.m. All absentee ballots are trackable online.

Absentee ballots can be requested at, /mvic.sos.state.mi.us/AVApplication/Index for individuals who have a valid ID or driver's license.

Residents can check to see if the Detroit City Clerk's office have received their application and if the ballot has been mailed by filling out the online form on, mvic.sos.state.mi.us/Voter/Index. There residents can also track the status of their ballot.
