The Seattle Construction Codes are being Updated

The Seattle construction codes are being updated to the 2021 code editions and include the building, residential, existing building, energy, mechanical, plumbing, fuel gas, and fire codes. The Seattle electrical code is being updated to the 2023 edition and the boiler and pressure vessel code being updated to the 2024 edition.

The effective date for these Seattle Codes will be November 15, 2024. Until the November 15, 2024 Seattle Codes effective date, applicants may use either the 2018 or 2021 Seattle Codes.

Seattle's code adoption ordinance is continuing through the final stages of the approval process. The 2021 draft Seattle Amendments can be found on the 2021 Seattle Code Adoption webpage.

Printed copies of the Seattle codes and complete digital versions will be available after the November 15, 2024, implementation date.
