Foreign Ministry warns about fake websites offering passport appointments
  • Passport appointments can be scheduled completely free of charge.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs (SRE) reports that fake websites have been created that mimic the ministry's official domain name. However, these are scam websites created for fraudulent purposes that have already been reported as fake.

The Foreign Ministry reminds the public that passport appointments can be scheduled free of charge, by using any one of these three official methods:

To avoid scams, fraud and identity theft, be vigilant and double-check that the website domain of the page you enter to carry out official procedures is gob.mx with no misspellings, for example, sre.gyob.mx/ or any other variation that may indicate that the site is not genuine.

The official web pages for passport appointments and other services will never end in "com.mx".

The public is further reminded that the only payment required is the passport fee. This payment is made once the appointment has been scheduled and you have received the form confirming the appointment by email. Payment can only be made at the bank or by using online banking. Never pay by making a transfer to a third party.

The Foreign Ministry reaffirms its commitment to provide services to the public, while calling on the community to be vigilant in order to avoid becoming the victim of fraud while seeking these services.
