Deputy Secretary Verma’s Meetings with the Government of India in New Delhi, India

Deputy Secretary of State for Management and Resources Richard Verma met with senior Indian officials in New Delhi from August 17-22. His meetings with External Affairs Minister Subrahmanyam Jaishankar, Foreign Secretary Vikram Misri, Minister of Commerce Piyush Goyal, senior advisers to the Prime Minister, and other senior officials advanced strategic cooperation between the United States and India on issues of mutual benefit and cooperation, including security, the digital economy, and clean energy supply chains. The officials also discussed U.S.-India coordination in multilateral fora such as the Quad. While in India, Deputy Secretary Verma was also joined by Senior Advisor to the President for International Climate Policy John Podesta and Deputy Secretary of the U.S. Department of Energy David Turk to meet with Minister of Power Manohar Lal Khattar, senior Government of India officials, climate advocates, and business leaders to discuss how the United States and India can further our climate partnership. These engagements reflect the breadth and depth of the U.S.-India partnership and helped deepen enduring people-to-people ties.
