Although the 2024 presidential race was the focal point of Tuesday's general election, it was not the only key contest. Legislative elections took place in 44 states, and AFSA's State Government Affairs team closely monitored those outcomes.
Before the election SGA released its 2024 Elections Preview Report and AFSA State Election Watch 2024: Volume 2. These outlined key legislative, gubernatorial, and attorney general races across various states, highlighting competitive contests that could shift political control, with particular focus on battleground states like Arizona, New Hampshire, Pennsylvania, and Wisconsin.
Volume 3 was released, providing outcomes from the November 5 elections and highlighting significant shifts, such as Michigan's House flipping to Republican control and Pennsylvania's attorney general race moving from Democrat to Republican. Gubernatorial and attorney general contests mostly maintained the status quo, with states like Minnesota and Pennsylvania still too close to call in key legislative races.
These updates, along with SGA's previous and future election updates, can be found in the SGA elections archive section of AFSA's website.
