Lincoln University Graduate Maddison Welker Wins Missouri Teacher Leader of Tomorrow Award

Lincoln Univeristy of Missouri fall 2023 graduate Maddison Welker has been awarded with the Missouri Teacher Leader of Tomorrow (MTLT) Award for the 2023-24 academic year.

Maddison Welker, a recent graduate of Lincoln University of Missouri, has been honored with the Missouri Teacher Leader of Tomorrow (MTLT) Award for the 2023-24 academic year. This esteemed accolade recognizes the most promising future educators in the state and is awarded by the Missouri Milken Educators in collaboration with the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) and the Office of Educator Quality.

Welker, who completed her Bachelor of Science in physical education in the fall of 2023, distinguished herself both academically and athletically during her time at Lincoln University. As a three-year letter winner on the Blue Tigers Softball team, she maintained a place on the Dean's List every semester. Her involvement extended beyond the classroom and the field, as she participated in community service projects, volunteered with the Special Olympics and coached youth softball.

Maddison Welker coached softball while student teaching at Putnam County.

Originally from House Springs/Cedar Hill, Welker is a graduate of Northwest High School. She completed her student teaching at Putnam County, where she also coached softball and track & field. Her achievements and dedication quickly caught the attention of employers, leading to several job offers before she accepted a position teaching physical education and coaching in Hartville, Missouri.

Welker was honored in a surprise ceremony in April at her current school. She was nominated by her academic advisor, Dr. Chad Kish, who praised her commitment to education and athletics.

"Maddison's philosophy of providing student-centered instruction promotes active engagement in learning various ways to be healthy and active throughout the lifespan," Dr. Kish said in his recommendation letter. "She exemplifies the term 'student-athlete,' earning Dean's List honors every semester at LU. Maddison sets the 5-STAR standard in every possible way."

Welker's recognition as a Missouri Teacher Leader of Tomorrow highlights her dedication to fostering healthy and active lifestyles among her students and her outstanding contributions to education and community service.
