Students explore professional interests at Career and Internship Fair

The Career and Internship Fair at Eastern Connecticut State University connected 400 students with more than 50 companies who seek the skills of Eastern students on Oct. 1 in the Student Center Betty Tipton Room.

The fair was divided into six categories. Fields within these categories involved arts and entertainment, marketing and finance, education, government and health/human services.

After checking in at the event, attendees were provided with maps detailing the different sections to help them navigate and find the segment that aligned the most with their career goals, as well as try out new sectors that piqued their interest.

Some of the employers offering part-time, full-time and internship positions included Eastern's Center for Community Engagement (CCE), Hartford Healthcare, the South Windsor Police Department, the Eastern Health Education Center, Raggi Insurance and Financial Services, CVS Health/Aetna, Hartford Police Department and Northwestern Mutual.

Some companies were represented by Eastern alumni. Mike Monack, district sales manager for Sherwin Williams, explained that he began at the company while studying at Eastern and worked his way up through different market segments and positions.

Company representatives emphasized what they were looking for in new team members. Joyce Gervasio, coordinator of strategic partnerships at Windham Public Schools, said the school system was looking for students ranging from education to business majors. "Eastern is our neighbor, so why not connect?'

Chris Ambrosio, Eastern's director of career services, emphasized how happy his office was with the event and the positive feedback from visiting companies. "Manyemployers were impressed with our student body."
