DEBATE RECAP: Mike Lawler Proved He’s Staying on Donald Trump’s Good Side

During tonight's debate in New York's Seventeenth Congressional District, Mike Lawler once again proved he's a loyal minion of convicted felon Donald Trump.

Five times Lawler showed us he's propping up an extremist agenda:

1. Lawler wouldn't commit to codifying Roe v. Wade. This refusal falls right in line with his recent comments that abortion rights should only be reserved to "a tiny subset of American women," proving that he's more willing than ever to follow Trump's dangerous lead to restrict reproductive freedoms.

1. Lawler refused to take accountability for wearing "blackface as part of a Halloween costume" and instead offensively defended the blackface as "the sincerest form of flattery," which falls in line with Trump's attacks on communities of color across the country.

1. Lawler couldn't provide answers on how he's preventing gun violence, which falls in line with Donald Trump's own record of failing to strengthen America's gun laws.

1. Lawler couldn't condemn the riot on the U.S. Capitol on January 6th, 2021, choosing his allegiance to Donald Trump over our democracy.

1. Lawler touted his non-existent record on immigration reform and refusing to support the bipartisan deal negotiated by the Senate, per Donald Trump's orders.

Meanwhile, NY-17 Democratic nominee Mondaire Jones underscored his plans to protect reproductive rights, secure the border, and fight for our democracy.

"Mike Lawler spoke to an audience of one tonight: Donald Trump. Lawler has only been a rubber stamp on Trump's extreme agenda that's harming Lower Hudson Valley families."
