On November 5, Minister of Unification Kim Yung Ho met with UN Under-Secretary-General for Political and Peacebuilding Affairs Rosemary DiCarlo to discuss the situation on the Korean Peninsula and ways to cooperate with the UN.

Minister Kim exchanged views on the current situation on the Korean Peninsula, including North Korea's recent deployment of troops to Russia and ICBM provocations. He strongly condemned North Korea's continued pursuit of nuclear and missile development, illegal military cooperation, human rights abuses against its own people, and self-isolation from the international community.

Furthermore, Minister Kim explained the South Korean government's August 15 Unification Doctrine and emphasized that South Korea would consistently strive to realize a "unified Korean Peninsula based on freedom, peace, and prosperity" in opposition to North Korea's anti-unification and ahistorical "two states" theory.

Under-Secretary-General DiCarlo expressed deep concern about North Korea's involvement in the Ukraine war and its assertion of a "two hostile states" theory. She also conveyed her understanding and support for the South Korean government's efforts to improve human rights in North Korea, as well as its unification and North Korea policies, including the August 15 Unification Doctrine.

Minister Kim stressed the importance of cooperation with the UN to bring about the right changes in North Korea and secure international security and asked for continued interest and support from the UN.
