Frederick Police Announces Open Applications for the 28th Citizens Police Academy

The Frederick Police Department is excited to announce that applications are now being accepted for the 28th Citizens Police Academy. This seven-week course is designed to provide participants with a comprehensive understanding of the functions and operations of the Frederick Police Department.

The Citizens Police Academy will offer instruction in various aspects of modern law enforcement, including uniformed patrol, criminal investigations, undercover operations, tactical operations, and more. Participants will engage in interactive and hands-on segments such as defensive tactics demonstrations and field sobriety tests.

There is no fee for this academy, and it is open to any resident of the City of Frederick or individuals with business interests in the city who are 18 years of age or older. Applicants must have no serious criminal convictions, as all participants will undergo a background check. The Frederick Police Department will select 25 participants on a first-come, first-served basis.

Those interested in applying may view and print the application here.

The academy will run from September 5, 2024, to October 17, 2024, with sessions held every Thursday evening from approximately 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Those interested in attending should submit their application (scanned and emailed) to Cpl. Shannon Stream no later than August 24, 2024.

Disclaimer: Upon completion of the program, participants will not be sworn police officers, nor be expected to perform any law enforcement functions; they will, however, have a greater understanding of the Frederick Police Department and how we can work together to make the City of Frederick a better community for everyone.
