Mayor's Message - July 2024

Dear Residents,

I hope you have been enjoying the warm weather and sunshine here in Aliso Viejo! With school out, we are excited to offer fun summer events, camps and classes to help everyone create lasting memories. From sports and arts to science and adventure camps, there is something for everyone to enjoy. Be sure to sign up and make your summer plans today at avcity.org to fill your family's calendar with opportunities to learn new skills, try a new sport, or express artistic talents.

As you spend more time outdoors, be sure to travel safely. E-bikes are a popular mode of transportation in our city, and it is important that bikers ride responsibly, wear helmets and follow the rules of the road. Please be mindful of pedestrians and other vehicles and use bike lanes whenever possible. For more E-bike safety tips click here. Many of us will also be venturing out for pool days, beach trips, and water activities. However, it is crucial to prioritize water safety to prevent drowning incidents. While you and your family are cooling off from the sun this season, be sure to closely supervise children when they are in or near the water and keep little ones within arm's reach. I also encourage you to enroll your children in swimming lessons to ensure they have the necessary skills to be safe in the water. If you have a pool at home, install barriers such as fences with self-latching gates, doors, alarms, and covers to prevent unsupervised access. Inexperienced swimmers should always wear a life jacket, especially in open water. Additional tips and information can be found on the Orange County Fire Authority (OCFA) website. By following these guidelines, we can all enjoy the water safely and make the most of our summer activities!
