Pedestrian Killed in Hit-and-Run

Los Angeles: The Los Angeles Police Department's South Traffic Division detectives are investigating a hit-and-run traffic collision that killed a 62-year-old woman.

On Monday, October 7, 2024, around 8:50 p.m., the victim was walking southbound across Imperial Highway west of Parmelee Avenue, outside of a crosswalk, when she was struck by a two-toned silver or white sedan traveling eastbound on Imperial Highway. The driver of the sedan failed to stop and render aid as required by law and continued driving eastbound on Imperial Highway.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics responded to the location and pronounced the victim deceased at scene.

The victim has been identified as 62-year-old Denise Barkus, a resident of Los Angeles.

On April 15, 2015, the City Council amended the Los Angeles Administrative Code and created a Hit-and-Run Reward Program Trust Fund. A reward of up to $50,000 is available to community members that provide information leading to the offender's identification, apprehension, and conviction or resolution through a civil compromise.

Motorists are reminded that if they become involved in a collision, they should pull over and stop as soon as it is safe to do so, notify emergency services, and remain at the scene to identify themselves.
