JCDHE offers vaccination clinic for students before school exclusion deadlines

The Johnson County Department of Health and Environment is offering a one-day vaccination clinic on Oct. 11 for students who need to catch up on required school vaccinations before exclusion deadlines later this month.

The walk-in vaccination clinic at JCDHE's Olathe office (11875 S. Sunset Drive) is open from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. for 7th and 11th graders, as well as any student needing a hepatitis A vaccine. Registered Nurses will provide students the Tdap, hepatitis A and meningitis vaccinations which are required by the Kansas Department of Health and Environment to attend school and participate in school activities. The HPV vaccine is also recommended and will be available at the clinic. No appointment is needed.

"Vaccines are safe, effective, and critical in preventing the spread of vaccine-preventable diseases, like pertussis, which is currently on the rise in Johnson County," says Charlie Hunt, department director. "By vaccinating your child, you are not only protecting them, but also helping to safeguard classmates, teachers and vulnerable individuals. It's a simple yet powerful way to keep everyone healthy and in school," he adds.

Parents/Guardians must accompany their student to the clinic and are encouraged to complete paperwork onlineprior to arrival. Additional items to bring include the letter from the school indicating which vaccines are needed, a signed consent form, the student's health insurance information and vaccination record if available. Spanish speakers will be available at each clinic, and no one will be turned away for inability to pay.

If parents cannot attend this clinic, they can bring their student to JCDHE's walk-in clinics during regular business hours. Find more information about the clinic, or call 913-826-1261 or send an email to [email protected].
