Firearm Recovered During Traffic Stop in Roxbury

At approximately 6:45 PM on Saturday, December 14, 2024, officers assigned to District B-2 (Roxbury) arrested 37-year-old Daunte Beal of Dorchester on firearm-related charges following a traffic stop at the intersection of Dudley Street and Burrell Street in Roxbury.

While traveling on Dudley Street toward Magazine Street, Officers observed a vehicle driving in the opposite direction without its headlights illuminated. The officers conducted a U-turn and noted that the vehicle had pulled into a parking space. At this point, the officers activated their emergency lights and sirens before approaching the parked vehicle.

The officers made contact with the driver and sole occupant, later identified as Daunte Beal, and informed him of the reason for the stop. Upon requesting Beal's driver's license, the officers noticed that he appeared nervous and closely monitored his behavior as they continued speaking with him.

Beal's nervous demeanor persisted, and he began recording the interaction with his cell phone. Due to his behavior, the officers determined further investigation was warranted and issued exit orders for Beal. When instructed to turn off the vehicle and exit, Beal refused to comply. The officers requested additional units via radio while repeatedly instructing Beal to exit the vehicle.

After additional units arrived, Beal continued to refuse compliance despite being ordered over twenty times to exit the vehicle. The officers were ultimately able to gain access to the driver's side door, and following a brief struggle, Beal was removed from the vehicle. Once outside, he attempted to flee on foot but was quickly apprehended and taken into custody.

During a subsequent search, Officers recovered a firearm from a small satchel located in Beal's pants pocket. The firearm was identified as a black Ruger LCP with one round in the chamber and four rounds in the magazine, which has a six-round capacity.

Beal is expected to be arraigned in Roxbury District Court on the following charges:

  • Carrying a Firearm Without a License
  • Carrying a Loaded Firearm Without a License (2nd Offense)
  • Unlawful Possession of Ammunition
  • Firearm Possession With One Prior Violent and/or Drug Crime
  • Resisting Arrest

In addition, Beal was issued a Massachusetts Uniform Citation for a Lights Violation and Failure to Produce a Driver's License.
