Michigan National Guard Announces Leadership Changes

LANSING, Mich. - The Michigan Department of Military and Veterans Affairs has announced two leadership changes across the Michigan National Guard. These changes reflect our commitment to excellence and the continued advancement of our organization under the guidance of exceptional leaders.

Brigadier General Scott W. Hiipakka was promoted to the rank of Major General on November 1, 2024. MG Hiipakka currently serves as the Commanding General for the 46th Military Police Command. In this critical role, he oversees the mission command in support of Defense Support of Civil Authorities and Chemical, Biological, Radiological and Nuclear consequence management operations. Throughout his distinguished career, MG Hiipakka has held several key command positions. These include Land Component Commander for the Michigan National Guard, Commander of the 177th Military Police Brigade, Commander of the 177th Regiment - Regional Training Institute and the 210th Military Police Battalion. Recently deployed as the Commander of Joint Task Force Guantanamo, where he played a pivotal role in overseeing the detention operations and ensuring the security and humane treatment of detainees in support of Operation Enduring Freedom. In addition to his distinguished military career, MG Hiipakka is the chief executive officer of the Michigan Israel Business Accelerator, a non-profit corporation dedicated to advancing bilateral economic partnerships between Michigan and Israel.

Colonel Scott L. Meyers was promoted to the rank of Brigadier General on October 1, 2024. BG Meyers currently serves as the Michigan National Guard Assistant Adjutant General for Initiatives. In this critical role, he oversees the National All-Domain Warfighting Center and is responsible for Joint Exercises within the Department. Throughout his distinguished career, BG Meyers has commanded the 272nd Regional Support Group and served as the Director of Human Resources for the Michigan National Guard. He has also commanded two battalions: the Recruiting and Retention Battalion and the 1-119th Field Artillery Regiment. His previous roles include Director of Surface Maintenance for Michigan's Army National Guard and various other key positions that have significantly enhanced the readiness and effectiveness of our armed forces.
