New Head of School of Allied and Community Health to join LSBU

Dr Julia Warrener has been appointed the Head of the new School of Allied and Community Health and will join London South Bank University (LSBU) in February 2025.

Dr Warrener joins LSBU from the University of Hertfordshire where she has held several roles over her 18-year tenure including Deputy Dean and Dean (Interim) of Health and Social Work. After an early career in social work where she practiced in community adult and forensic mental health settings in the Northwest of England and as a Senior Practitioner, Dr Warrener moved into the higher education sector where she was appointed Senior Lecturer Social Work in 2006. Julia's research interests include mental health and personality disorder as well as considering the lived experience of Black (African Caribbean) academic and professional staff in UK universities.

As Head, Dr Warrener will provide leadership for the School which is part of the University's new College of Health and Life Sciences (bringing together colleagues from the Schools of Allied and Community Health, Applied and Health Sciences and Nursing and Midwifery). As well as continuing to build an accessible, diverse, inclusive and School environment, she will deliver on pedagogic innovation and continue to work closely with the new schools to continue to increase the quality of the student experience.

We are delighted that Julia Warrener will be joining LSBU. This is the latest in our series of new talent recruitment as part of our new Schools/College structure which comes into effect in January 2025. This involves combining ten schools of study into three Colleges, each with three or four Schools within them. This will facilitate enhanced strategic leadership across related subject areas and promote collaboration between teaching and research.
