Jia Rong Low gave his inaugural introductory remarks as APNIC's incoming Director General during the Opening Ceremony and Keynotes session at the APNIC 58 conference in Wellington, New Zealand.

Jia Rong is already well known in the APNIC community, but he introduced himself and his background (and the languages he speaks) before discussing the current state of the Internet. His remarks focused on current technical pressures like privacy, security, and emerging technologies, and governance concerns like policy processes, regulatory efforts, and the multistakeholder model. He also emphasized that the strength of the APNIC community is participation and engagement, calling for community feedback that will shape APNIC's priorities into the future.

The APNIC Executive Council (EC) announced Jia Rong's appointment in July 2024. Jia Rong is attending APNIC 58 to meet with the community before beginning in his official capacity in October 2024.
