Fortinet’s Cloud Security Summit Explores the Future of Secure Cloud Infrastructure

The cloud security landscape has never been more complex, and a dynamic security strategy is essential for organizations leveraging the cloud to drive innovation. It's critical to understand how emerging technologies like GenAI and advancements in tools and techniques are reshaping how we secure our digital assets. This is why Fortinet is hosting a Cloud Security Summit this month.

The event will bring together experts and thought leaders to discuss the latest in cloud security, provide insights on emerging threats, and explore the future of secure cloud adoption. In a recent Q&A, Fortinet's cloud security expert, Vince Hwang, gave a sneak peek of the upcoming Fortinet Cloud Security Summit.

What can we expect at the upcoming Future-Proof Your Cloud Security summit?

Vince: We're hosting a Cloud Summit on Tuesday, November 12: "Future-Proof Your Cloud Security: Securing Your Applications from Code to Cloud." We'll be exploring how organizations can effectively navigate today's cloud challenges, whether that's around cloud migration, adopting GenAI securely, or building resilience against growing cyberthreats.

Attendees will hear from top speakers, including Frank Dickson, Group Vice President, Security and Trust at IDC; Chris Grusz, Managing Director, AWS Technology Partnerships, AWS Specialists and Partners; and John Maddison, Fortinet Chief Marketing Officer.

Discussions will be focused on long-standing cybersecurity issues like the impact of the cybersecurity skills gap on the cloud landscape and the growing complexity of cloud environments. We'll also share the latest research from IDC and Fortinet's Cloud Security Report. We aim to give attendees actionable insights to shape their cloud strategies effectively.

What can attendees expect to take away from the event?

Vince: This cloud security summit will have seven focused sessions covering various aspects of cloud security, including strategies for securing cloud-native applications, mitigating risks, and integrating AI-driven tools to stay ahead of threats. Attendees can expect to leave the summit with a solid understanding of how to build resilient, scalable cloud environments that meet their organization's evolving needs.

One key session will be an exclusive fireside chat with leaders from Fortinet and AWS. In this session, they will discuss critical areas shaping the future of cloud security and optimization. They will discuss how Fortinet and AWS are working together to simplify and scale secure cloud adoption by integrating robust security services and tools. They will also discuss cost efficiency, exploring strategies to help organizations optimize cloud spending and streamline deployments without compromising security.

What challenges are you seeing in the cloud landscape today?

Vince: The cloud is rapidly evolving, and with this evolution comes persistent challenges. One major issue remains the lack of skilled cybersecurity resources, leaving organizations more vulnerable to potential breaches. This dearth of cybersecurity talent exacerbates additional cloud challenges, including navigating the complexity of managing multi-cloud and hybrid environments as applications spread across various cloud platforms and, in some cases, even return on-premises. This complexity becomes even more pronounced with the adoption of GenAI, as these models require vast amounts of data and applications to be stored in the cloud, which can heighten security risks.

Another challenge is the risk of misconfigurations and reduced visibility as organizations expand their digital transformation efforts. These challenges aren't new but amplified as cloud environments become integral to business operations. At Fortinet, we're focused on helping our customers manage these complexities through a platform approach that provides consistent security across cloud and on-premises environments.

How do Fortinet cloud solutions give customers and partners a competitive edge?

Vince: Fortinet's cloud security approach centers around three core pillars: simplicity, consistency, and cost-efficiency. First, we offer a platform-based approach that unifies security across environments, reducing the need for multiple siloed tools. This means that whether you manage security on-premises or in the cloud, you work within a unified framework that minimizes the learning curve and provides a consistent experience.

We've also made it a priority to streamline security operations, so when customers see an alert in one cloud, it means the same as an alert on-premises. This level of uniformity across platforms significantly reduces operational overhead and helps security teams do more with less-something crucial in today's resource-constrained environments.

Lastly, we're helping our customers optimize cloud spending. For instance, our Fortinet FortiFlex program helps organizations maximize their cloud investments by offering flexible consumption models and protecting against overspending. It ensures our customers can meet their cloud commitments without sacrificing security investments, allowing them to scale their security posture as they grow.

How do you see cloud security evolving in the near future? How can customers future-proof their cloud strategies?

Vince: Cloud security is a constantly shifting landscape, and I think one of the key evolutions we'll see is an increased focus on "code-to-cloud" security. This means securing applications from the very beginning of the development process through to production. Traditionally, security measures were applied only after applications went live, but today, we're seeing a shift-left approach in which security is integrated earlier in the development life cycle. This allows organizations to identify and mitigate risks before they reach the cloud, providing a more proactive defense.

Organizations need to adopt a platform approach that supports consistent security across all clouds and environments to future-proof their strategies. This involves building resilience into each deployment, ensuring that the security framework can evolve as the cloud evolves. The goal is to avoid getting bogged down by isolated tools and instead have an integrated system that allows teams to detect threats faster and address risks in real time.

Ultimately, a future-proofed cloud strategy involves preparing for change. Cloud environments are dynamic, and organizations need a flexible, scalable security approach to keep pace. At Fortinet, we're committed to providing solutions that address today's needs and are adaptable enough to meet tomorrow's challenges.
