FLINT-Congressman Dan Kildee (MI-08) today released the following statement after House Speaker Mike Johnson (LA-04) indicated his support for repealing the CHIPS and Science Act:
"The CHIPS and Science Act is a critical new law to accelerate the production of American-made semiconductors while creating good-paying jobs, securing our supply chains and growing our economy.
"In Michigan alone, the CHIPS and Science Act has led to $1.5 billion in investments in semiconductor and electronics manufacturing and created more than 1,000 new jobs, including across mid-Michigan. Speaker Johnson's plan to repeal this law would put Michiganders out of work and set America back in its competition against China.
"For the first time in a long time-thanks to Vice President Harris and Democrats in Congress-Michigan is at the forefront of a manufacturing renaissance. We will not let Republicans stand in the way of our efforts to bring manufacturing jobs back home to Michigan."
