For 35 years, Minh has been one of Baytown's go-to guys for everything parks-related, combining expertise with a deep commitment to community. Minh began his journey in 1989 in Public Works and soon joined Parks and Recreation, where he put his technical skills and creative spirit to work - and the city has never looked back.
From brackish-water touch tanks that spark kids' curiosity to custom-designed park enclosures, Minh's projects are more than just functional; they're award-winning, cost-saving innovations. Minh's knack for leadership and collaboration shines through in each one of Baytown's 53 parks. If there's a trail, playground, or boardwalk in the city, Minh's probably had a hand in making it better. And his eye for stewardship? He once led a team to relocate two giant pedestrian bridges without breaking the budget - or a single concrete slab. He actually saved the City an estimated $20,000 due to his ingenuity and ability to lead his team through a well-executed project.
A true park pro, Minh was honored as the 2022 Texas Recreation and Park Society's Park Professional of the Year, a testament to his lifelong dedication to the community. But Minh doesn't just bring his A-game to park projects; he's also a competitive force in the annual Maintenance Rodeo, excelling in events like backhoe operation and tug-of-war. (Yes, he's got trophies - and he'll tell you about them if you ask!)
Beyond certifications in playground safety and pesticide application, Minh holds a deep respect for the values of innovation, collaboration, and caring. Whether he's transforming an old Bunker Rake into a super-efficient trash wagon or mentoring his team through a new project, Minh leads by example, inspiring everyone around him.
Outside of work, you'll find Minh spending time with his family - his wife Angela of 35 years, his three wonderful daughters, and three energetic grandkids who are the lights of his life. Minh's legacy of creativity, stewardship, and leadership is evident across Baytown, in every park and trail where the community comes together. Thanks to him, Baytown's parks don't just look good - they feel like home.
