Tan Zhemin attends 2024 Forum of Presidents in Chicago

From September 22 to 26, 2024, Tan Zhemin, President of NJU, led a delegation to the United States to attend the 2024 "10+10" Forum of Presidents, and visited the University of Wisconsin-Madison and Northwestern University.

On September 23, 2024, the Forum was held at the University of Chicago. Chen Jie, Chinese Vice Minister of Education and Academician of Chinese Academy of Engineering, attened the forum and delivered a speech. The forum was joined by representatives from 14 Chinese universities including Peking University, Tsinghua University, Renmin University of China, Fudan University, Nanjing University and Chinese University of Hongkong, and 12 American universities including University of Chicago, Havard University, Yale University, Carnegie Mellon University and Northwest University.

Tan delivered a keynote speech during a roundtable discussion with the theme of "Opportunities and Challenges: Integrating Artificial Intelligence Technology into Education." He elaborated on the profound impact of artificial intelligence on students, teachers, the "teaching-learning" relationship, and on universities as a whole. He introduced NJU's efforts to improve students' artificial intelligence literacy, such as intergrating AI courses into the undergraduate curriculum through the program of "Artificial Intelligence General Education Core Courses." These efforts would deepen student's understanding of AI while encouraging interdisciplinary integration between AI and various academic fields. He also called on universities in China and the United States to jointly and actively respond to the challenges posed by the era of artificial intelligence, and accelerate the innovative application of artificial intelligence in higher education.

During the meeting, Tan also had in-depth exchanges with leaders of American universities on topics such as artificial intelligence and university development and promoting Sino-U.S. higher education cooperation.
