Mayor Kim Kyung-hee from Icheon, South Korea visited with City of Santa Fe Mayor Alan Webber on July 11 as part of a Sister Cities gathering.

In collaboration with Sister Cities International (SCI), the city creates relationships based on cultural, educational, information, and trade exchanges, creating lifelong friendships that provide prosperity and peace through person-to-person "citizen diplomacy."

Kyung-hee presented the mayor with a special porcelain moon jar.

"This is more than a work of art, it's a work of heart," Webber said

SCI was created at President Dwight Eisenhower's White House Conference on Citizen Diplomacy on September 11, 1956. Eisenhower envisioned an organization that could be the hub of peace and prosperity by creating bonds between people from different cities around the world.

Santa Fe's Sister Cities program reflects SCI's mission, "To promote peace through mutual respect, understanding, and cooperation."
