Two Suspects Arrested This Week for Annoying or Molesting Children in City Parks

In the past two days, officers have arrested two separate suspects in connection with two separate incidents where a suspect has annoyed/molested a juvenile.

On July 30th, around 3:15 pm, the Berkeley Police Department was notified of a suspect attempting to contact juveniles inside the public restroom near the "Nature Center" at 160 University Ave. The public restroom is next to a children's play camp inside Shorebird Park.

Officers arrived on the scene and were advised that the suspect was still inside a restroom and had been trying to invite juveniles into the restroom stall. Officers contacted the subject inside the restroom, later identified as Kerry Wiley, and upon further investigation, identified two juvenile victims.

Wiley was placed under arrest for annoying or molesting children under the age of 18 and multiple additional charges. Wiley was booked into the Santa Rita Jail without further incident.

On July 31st, at around 12:49 pm, the Berkeley Police Department received a report that a juvenile had been inappropriately touched on the stomach while attending a summer camp at Strawberry Creek Park. Park employees contacted the suspect, who was not part of the camp program and was later identified as Francisco Carrilloperez. They kept him at the park until the police arrived.

Upon their arrival, the police conducted an investigation and found that the suspect had indeed inappropriately touched a juvenile on the stomach and had also given them a high five.

Carrilloperez was arrested for annoying or molesting a victim under the age of 18, along with an outstanding warrant. Carrilloperez was booked into BPD Jail without further incident.

Both suspects are currently still in custody.

The Berkeley Police Department would like to remind the community to talk with their children about stranger danger. It's always a good idea to use the buddy system and never travel alone in a public place. Reminding your children what to look for, what to listen for, and how to remain safe is crucial to their safety.
