8/27/24 Armed Robbery UPDATE

Previously Reported:

(PEORIA, IL) Monday, August 26, 2024, at approximately 1:26 p.m. Peoria Police were dispatched to the 300 block of W. Republic regarding an Armed Robbery involving a Postal Worker.

When officers arrived, they located the female victim who told officers that while she was delivering the mail she was approached by an armed male who took her mail bag and some personal items.

The suspect then fled to a waiting vehicle and drove away. The victim was not injured.

This incident is under investigation. There is no suspect information.

UPDATE 8-27-24

During the course of this investigation, members of the Peoria Police Department's Special Investigations Division (SID) and Criminal Investigations Division (CID) located the vehicle connected to this incident in the 1100 block of E. Behrends Avenue. The suspect vehicle was a previously reported stolen vehicle.

Officers observed three individuals enter the vehicle and drive away.

A short time later officers observed the vehicle come to a stop in the 700 block of E. London. Three males identified as 18-year-old Jamel Anthony, a 16-year-old male, and a 15-year-old male were observed walking away from the vehicle.

Officers then attempted to take the suspects into custody. All three males fled.

After a brief foot chase all three males were apprehended and taken into custody.

Anthony was in possession of a loaded handgun.

All three males were transported to the Peoria Police Department for interviewing purposes.

The two juveniles were arrested for Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle and Obstructing Police.

Jamel Anthony was arrested for Possession of a Stolen Motor Vehicle, Aggravated Unlawful Use of a Weapon, No FOID, and Obstructing Police.

The juveniles were transported to the Juvenile Detention Center.

Anthony was transported to the Peoria County Jail.

This investigation remains ongoing.
