Portage la Prairie RCMP respond to multiple theft/robberies and make arrests

On September 5, 2024, within several hours, RCMP responded to five thefts/robberies at businesses in Portage la Prairie where the suspects were reported to be acting violently and erratically. Officers determined that two males and one female suspect were involved and in many instances employees were threatened or assaulted during the theft. In one incident, a Community Safety Officer(CSO) was assaulted when an attempt was made to arrest the suspects.

Video surveillance was obtained and officers identified the suspects.

They were located and arrested. All three suspects were from Long Plain First Nation.

Koby Daniels, 21, has been charged with numerous offences including:

Robbery
Resisting Arrest
Theft x3
Assaulting a Peace Officer
Assault with a Weapon x5
Possession of a Weapon

Shoughn Perswain, 23, has been charged with Theft, Resisting Arrest and Assaulting a Peace Officer.
Both were remanded into custody.

A 38-year-old female is facing charges of Theft x2. She was released from custody and is scheduled to appear in court at a later date.

The employees and CSO received minor physical injuries and did not require medical assistance.
