Firearms & Stolen Vehicles – Arrest: C24-153079

On July 4, 2024, at approximately 9:13 p.m., officers from the West District, with the assistance of AIR1, responded to the report of an off-duty RCMP officer who spotted a previously stolen vehicle parked in front of a residence in the 1900 block of Ross Avenue West.

The vehicle was reported stolen on July 2 from a parking lot in the 1700 block of Sargent Avenue. It was full of personal belongings, including luggage and identification belonging to the owner.

As the off-duty officer approached the vehicle, a male armed with a machete exited the residence and confronted him. The officer identified himself as an off-duty member, and the male retreated to the residence.

Upon police arrival, the suspect male was taken into custody, and a large quantity of property, weapons and two firearms were seized from the residence:

  • Remington 1100 LT Model (Reported from a 2021 B&E in Headingley, MB)
  • Remington Wingmaster Shotgun
  • Ammunition
  • Machetes
  • A stolen Ford-150 pickup truck (Reported stolen in June 2024)
  • A stolen Dodge Caravan (as referenced above, stolen July 2, 2024)
  • Several stolen vehicle license plates (previously reported by owners)
  • Stolen credit cards and personal items (Reported stolen July 2, 2024, from Recreation Complex lockers - 900 block Sargent Ave.)

Tyson Jay GAMBLIN (42), of Winnipeg, was charged with 21 firearms, property and weapons-related offences and was detained in custody.

The Winnipeg Police Service encourages the community to report all stolen property as soon as possible. Please note online reports are not accepted if the incident involves:
  • Any theft, loss or property damage exceeding $25,000
  • Personal violence such as assault, robbery, domestic violence
  • Theft (or loss) of firearm or medication
  • Theft of vehicle, license plate or utility trailer
  • Hate-motivated vandalism or hate-motivated graffiti
