Former Coventry Man Convicted of Multiple Charges Related to Attempted 2023 Home Invasion

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

(Vernon, CT) - Matthew C. Gedansky, Tolland Judicial District State's Attorney, announced that Devin McConnell, age 57, previously of Coventry, was found guilty by a jury today of the crimes of Attempt to Commit Home Invasion, in violation of Connecticut General Statues §53a-49 and §53a-100aa, Carrying a Dangerous Weapon, in violation of Connecticut General Statues §53-206, and Threatening in the Second Degree, in violation of Connecticut General Statues §53a-62(a)(2)(B). After the jury rendered their verdicts, McConnell pleaded guilty before the Honorable Richard J. Rubino to being a Persistent Offender of Crimes Involving Assault, in violation of Connecticut General Statues § 53a-40d.

According to the evidence introduced at trial, on the morning of July 27, 2023, McConnell left a series of threatening statements recorded on the voicemail of the victim, including a threat of bodily harm. McConnell shortly thereafter entered onto the victim's property. McConnell could be seen on the victim's home surveillance system pounding on the door and windows multiple times with a stick and attempting to enter the home. McConnell was armed with a box cutter during this offense. The Coventry Police Department arrived immediately and were able to apprehend McConnell on scene.

"The State would like to thank the jury for their time and careful consideration of the evidence to see that justice was done for the victims and the Coventry community, and to thank the Coventry Police Department for their diligent investigation into these criminal acts," said Assistant State's Attorney Jonathan Shaw, who prosecuted the case.

Sentencing is scheduled for September 26, 2024 in Rockville Superior Court.
