MEDIA ADVISORY: Chairman Green Announces Worldwide Threats Hearing Featuring DHS Secretary Mayorkas, FBI Director Wray, NCTC Acting Director Holmgren

WASHINGTON, D.C. - Today, House Committee on Homeland Security Chairman Mark E. Green, MD (R-TN) announced a full committee hearing for Wednesday, November 20, 2024, at 10:00 AM ET, to examine global threats to the homeland. The hearing will feature witness testimony from Department of Homeland Security (DHS) Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Director Christopher Wray, and National Counterterrorism Center (NCTC) Acting Director Bret Holmgren.

"Today, our nation is facing heightened national security threats from a multitude of bad actors, coupled with the weak leadership the American people have had to endure for the past four years," Chairman Green said. "As we look forward to the inauguration of President-elect Donald Trump and the administration he is assembling to protect the homeland, we must acknowledge how the Biden-Harris administration's actions have placed our country in danger and the threats the new administration will be inheriting because of Biden and Harris' failures.

"Our wide-open Southwest border and the anti-enforcement policies of the Biden-Harris administration still present a glaring threat to the security of the American people. Bad actors and criminals from across the globe have no doubt been among the two million known gotaways who have evaded law enforcement, not to mention the nearly five million inadmissible aliens released into the interior with insufficient vetting. Our enemies abroad know this and are already taking advantage.

"Abroad, the Biden-Harris administration has repeatedly sought to appease a brutal Iranian regime and hindered our nation's counterterrorism mission. Biden and Harris have consistently hesitated to support our indispensable ally Israel against our common enemies, choosing instead to pander to an extreme flank of their party. Foreign jihadist networks are once again a heightened concern for the U.S. and our allies, as terror groups work to remotely recruit and radicalize individuals to carry out ideologically motivated terrorist attacks in the homeland and across the globe.

"This administration has also failed to adequately address one of our nation's most pressing national security threats--an unchecked Chinese Communist Party (CCP). Beijing has advanced its pursuit of global domination at frightening speed over the past four years, even seeking its own objectives on U.S. soil. Displayed by its increasingly brazen espionage and its ever-expanding cyber aggression on our critical infrastructure, China is potentially positioning itself to undermine our national security in the event of escalation in the Indo-Pacific.

"I am confident the Trump-Vance administration will meet these threats with strength and a commitment to securing the homeland. Even so, the testimony we will receive from Secretary Mayorkas, Director Wray, and Acting Director Holmgren is critical to understand how to address the shortcomings of the Biden-Harris administration and move forward to confront the current complex and evolving threat landscape."
