The CU-Bloomsburg Forensics (Speech and Debate) Team won the 5th Place overall Team Sweepstakes Trophy out of 9 schools at the 18th Annual Lafayette College OCHOIE Tournament held October 12-13 in Easton.
Bloomsburg finished ahead of Shepherd University, Dutchess Community College, Lehigh University, and Lafayette College. Ohio University, Hofstra University, James Madison University, and West Chester University finished as the top 4 schools, respectively, at the tournament. Bloomsburg also won 4th Place overall in the "Speech" category.
All five students competing for CU-Bloomsburg won speaking awards:
Dr. Neil Strine, Director of Forensics and Professor of Political Science, along with Commonwealth University - Bloomsburg 2024 Alumni Erik Weibel and Jondi Harley served as speech and debate judges for Bloomsburg.
The Commonwealth University-Bloomsburg Forensics Team is open to all students and no prior experience is required to join. The team is supported by Bloomsburg's Community Government Association and meets every Monday and Wednesday in Bakeless, Room #306. All students on the team have an opportunity to sign up for the Forensics Practicum course for credit towards graduation. The team will travel next to Duquesne University in Pittsburgh for the Collegiate Forensic Association's Annual Fall Tournament on Oct. 17-18.
