Florida PSC Promotes National Lifeline Awareness Week

TALLAHASSEE - The Florida Public Service Commission (PSC) is participating in National Lifeline Awareness Week, September 9-13, 2024, reminding consumers that the federal Lifeline Assistance (Lifeline) program can help eligible residents stay connected. Lifeline provides up to a $9.25 monthly discount on voice, broadband, or a bundle with both services.

"The PSC has participated in Lifeline Awareness Week since its inception 15 years ago," said PSC Chairman Mike La Rosa. "Lifeline continues to help keep communication lines open for users to connect with families, friends, and communities."

To help raise awareness and increase participation in Lifeline, the PSC will focus outreach in Northeast Florida this year, hosting several events in St. Johns and Nassau Counties throughout the week. Consumers will learn about Lifeline benefits, qualifications, and how to apply for the program through the Lifeline National Verifier.

To qualify for Lifeline, consumers must have a household income at or below 135 percent of the federal Poverty Guidelines or be enrolled in one of the following federal assistance programs:

  • Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP)
  • Supplemental Security Income (SSI)
  • Medicaid
  • Federal Public Housing Assistance (FPHA)
  • Veterans and Survivors Pension Benefit
  • Live on federally-recognized Tribal lands and participate in specific Tribal Programs

Applicants must provide documentation of their participation in one of these programs when applying for Lifeline. Eligibility must be re-certified annually, and the program allows for only one discount per household. Consumers should check with telephone companies offering Lifeline to determine if voice, broadband, or both are available in your area.

More information about the Lifeline program and instructions on how to apply can be found on the PSC's website.

National Lifeline Awareness Week is supported by the National Association of Regulatory Utility Commissioners and the Federal Communications Commission. More information can be found here.
